Clutchy Hopkins & Fat Albert Einstein: High Desert Low Tide Vinyl LP

Clutchy Hopkins & Fat Albert Einstein: High Desert Low Tide Vinyl LP

Structurally set in the LA scene (think Flying Lotus or The Heliocentrics) comes an album that combines the “high desert crunch” with the “city life punch”. The enigmatic and elusive Clutch Hopkins joins forces with multi-instrumentalist/producer Fat Albert Einstein to create an album that is wholly unique. Featuring elements of soul, jazz, hip hop and rock mixed with dozens of assorted flutes, horns, vibes, and homemade percussion instruments, the album draws from a myriad of influences that give it an almost cinematic feel. Tracks to check out include “Mojave Dervish,” the ethio-sounding “Zero G’s,” the syncopated rhythms of “Juju Beans,” “Lock Pop,” “Double Dribble,” and “The Wash”. That said, every track bumps in it’s own unique way, and the music will have you flipping the record back and forth on repeat. The album is full of visionary instrumental tunes that pay homage to the past, present and future. 12 tracks in all, released by Aural Tradition. Recommended.

  • Clutchy Hopkins first Lab appearance dates back to 2006 with his cult classic MF Doom remix project
  • music label: Aural Tradition 2019
