LFO: Peel Session Vinyl 12"

From the early electronic experimentation of the Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, and ABC to the field-filling art rock of Pulp, Sheffield has been a vibrant destination on the musical map for decades. Warp Records was founded in 1989 and broke new ground in left-field electronic music, going on to be the home of artists such as of Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Autechre - plus plenty of stuff on the more banging side. LFO was an early success story for the label, the duo of Mark Bell and Gez Varley helping to cement the label’s early sonic aesthetics. As the story goes, they gave a demo to Nightmares On Wax that was a real barnstormer in the clubs, leading to the duo signing to Warp and giving the label their first top 20 single. With only this one single to their name, they were booked for a John Peel Session to be recorded around Halloween, 1990. These four tracks showed the world the potential of the Steel City’s bleep-techno sound, combining heady grooves with thoughtful production twists. The sounds would go on to inspire many of the label’s future associates, from The Orb to The Future Sound of London. Part of Warp’s 30th anniversary series of BBC sessions from all their flagship artists including Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin and more, housed in full color sleeve with spot gloss varnish, printed inner sleeve and download code.
