Prince Jammy: Prince Jammy Destroys The Invaders Vinyl LP

Prince Jammy: Prince Jammy Destroys The Invaders Vinyl LP

Massive slab of dub recorded at Channel One in the early '80s. With enough lasers and space grenades to bring down an arcade's worth of galaxians, Jammy lives up to the promise in the title. This immaculate repress, straight from the original tapes, is part of an impressive series of re-releases from Greensleeves, who handled the international market for much of the best Jamaican music of the '80s. Want to show somebody why vinyl is better than digital? Here's your clean-up hitter. As for the songs, there's not many overplayed rhythms here, and nary a trace of the original vocals from which these were dubbed. "Conspiracy On Neptune" is a good place to start: squelchy space bomb, ominous vocal intro, moody organ, subsonic bass. "Martian Encounter" follows a similar pattern, with twice the lasers and double the death rays. "War In the Asteroid Belt" is based on a Dub Organizer-sounding bass riff that battles a killer guiro. And how can you resist a track called "Life On Uranus?" Eight tracks total.
