Richard Horowitz: Eros In Arabia Vinyl LP

Richard Horowitz: Eros In Arabia Vinyl LP

Richard Horowitz' in-demand debut album finally repressed! Originally released in 1981 on Ethnotech Records under the pseudonym Drahcir ZtiworohEros In Arabia captures transcendent, inter-dimensional experiments in sound on wax. The 8 track album fuses ancient instruments, such as the ney cane flute and bendir frame drum, with Prophet-5 synthesizer and modern echo and delay effects to create a profound other-worldly listening experience. Check the brilliant 20+ minute "Elephant Dance" for a taste, then get into the percussion-heavy title track, and the trance-inducing "Bandit Nrah Master Of Rajasthan," an homage to Shakuhachi flute players that is reminiscent of work by Geinoh Yamashirogumi.  All this coming from the composer of the Any Given Sunday soundtrack and founder of the Gnaoua Festival in Mogador. A strange duality for sure, but this early work is certainly a unique audible experience warranting repeat listens. This 2017 pressing on Freedom To Spend comes in pic sleeve featuring art from the original pressing and printed insert with liner notes by Brian Cullman. Recommended.
