Following a string of junglist-leaning cassettes for 1080p, Midnight Club NY, and Cassava Piece, Trust Image makes a very welcome shift to vinyl with the latest dispatch on Arcane. A Man Cut In Slices expands the Brooklyn-based producer's sonic view, showcasing a natural adaptability on a diverse range that touches on soulful house, Aphexian techno, Theo-type beatdowns, heady UK Garage (as in "garridge"), and even Vangelis-esque ambience. Impressive to say the least, not only for its breadth of styles, but for the precision and genuine vibes captured in the execution. Right from the get-go, "Someone Like You" simultaneously tugs at the heart strings while setting the dance floor off, with nostalgic chords and a groove-ready bounce. The rude basslines and rough edges of "Quattro" take us deeper into the zone, loosening it up for the sharply focused charge that is "The Crossing." On the flip, "Interzone," delivers a spacious breath of air, while "Blues & The Abstract Truth" closes it out with synth lines that would make the Analord himself jealous. A beacon of ingenuity and facility that cuts through the endless sea of banal and mediocre dance 12" releases. Comes housed in custom screen printed 12" sleeve ("rain camo") with custom postcard insert featuring a photograph of William S. Burroughs' childhood home. Recommended.
